Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme 2022/23 is open now for application. For study in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Government is accepting applications for the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme Program. Under the auspices of the Research Grants Council, the Fellowship Scheme provides international students from all over the globe with a 300 Ph.D. degree and admission to top-ranked Hong Kong universities. Students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree may apply for a straight Ph.D. program. This Fellowship is open to both Master’s/MPhil and Bachelor’s degree holders.
The Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) was established by Hong Kong’s Research Grants Council (RGC) in 2009 to recruit the finest and brightest students from across the globe to pursue Ph.D. studies at Hong Kong’s institutions.
Shortlisted submissions will be examined by one of two Selection Panels comprised of specialists in the appropriate board areas, depending on their fields of study:
- Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Technology
- Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business Studies

Eligibility OF Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme
- Candidates should apply if they are seeking admission as new full-time Ph.D. students at one of the eight universities listed below, regardless of their place of origin, past job experience, or ethnic background.
- City University of Hong Kong
- Hong Kong Baptist University
- Lingnan University
- The Chinese University of Hong Kong
- The Education University of Hong Kong
- The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- The University of Hong Kong
Academic achievement, research ability/potential, communication, and interpersonal skills, and leadership talents should all be demonstrated by applicants.
While academic achievement is the most important criterion, the Selection Panels will also examine the following factors:
Academic achievement.
Investigate your abilities and potential.
Interpersonal and communication skills are important.
Capabilities to lead.
How To Apply For Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme
Before submitting applications fo Ph.D. admission to their preferred universities, eligible applicants must first complete an Initial Application online through the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme Electronic System (HKPFSES) to receive an HKPFS Reference Number by 1 December 2021 at 12:00:00 Hong Kong Time.
Under HKPFS 2022/23, applicants may pick up two programs/departments for Ph.D. studies at one or two institutions. They must meet the entrance standards of the institutions and programs they have chosen.

Benefits
For a period of up to three years, each awardee receives an annual salary of HK$322,800 (about US$41,400) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,500 (roughly US$1,730). In the academic year 2022/23, 300 Ph.D. Fellowships will be awarded*. The chosen institutions may offer additional help for winners who require more than three years to finish their Ph.D. degrees.
